Children's week comes to a close in Osijek

07.06.2010

The "Zeko i Potočić" Children's Week, organized by radio station Gradski radio Osijek and with the support of numerous sponsors, came to a close with the traditional Children's Festival, organized in the Croatian National Theater in Osijek, at which 120 individuals performed. The Children's Week came to a close with much enjoyment, smiles and numerous events for children, intended as fun and to develop their artistic talent and creativity.

Millenium promocija is a partner of the "Zeko i Potočić" Children's Week.

The numerous visitors had the opportunity to enjoy the numerous contents such as plays in Branko Mihaljević Children's Theater, free screenings of children's movies, art workshops, guest appearances by children's authors, cultural and performing societies and dance ensembles, music programs and performances by Apollo Circus. Children's Week was also marked by "Zeko's League", which the kids of Osijek Football Club won this year thanks to their exceptional sports talent.
As part of the festival, partners organized numerous contents at their stands along the Osijek Children's Promenade. In this manner, while playing, kids at PLIVA's stand could experience what it was like being a doctor for a day in the hospital for teddy bears, which attracted a large number of children. Also, the young athletes could compete in darts and basketball at the H1 TELEKOM stand.

The high point of the event was the traditional Children's Festival in the Croatian National Theater in Osijek. The Children's festival was attended by the Minister of the Family, Veterans' Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity, Tomislav Ivić, and the Minsiter of Science, Education and Sports, Radovan Fuchs.

In addition to its entertainment and sports character, the "Zeko i Potočić" Children's Week was also marked by its educational and humanitarian characteristic. A round table organized by the Ministry of the Family, Veterans' Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity was held in Central Hotel, entitled "How to recognize and prevent domestic violence against children". At the round table, it was concluded that children's rights include the rights of parents to social support, which is especially crucial up till the child turns three years of age. Those gathered at the round table agreed that sanctions must exist, but that they were not enough –parental child-rearing practices must be corrective, as well as preventive, and must encourage desirable child behavior.

The charity drive "They Need Them More" was also organized, for collecting toys for children's homes. In addition, as part of the "Zeko i Potočić" Children's Week, author Nataša Kalinić Ahačić promoted the book "Full Screen – 50 years of Children's and Youth Programming on Croatian Television", published by PROFIL. This book deals with the history of children's and youth programming, told through the notes of those who participated in its creation, and presents a valuable overview of discussions with notable associates – writers, musicians, actors, dancers, as well as many talented children.
Involved in the Children's week as media sponsors were Večernji list, Narodni radio, CMC-Croatian Music Channel, Dječja televizija (Children's Television), Televizija Slavonije i Baranje (Television of Slavonia and Baranja), and Osijek Television, as well as media company P.I.O.

About the "Zeko i Potočić" Children's Week Festival
The festival was initiated in memory of the great Croatian composer, Branko Mihanović, growing from the Children's Festival, which has been taking place since 2008, this year for the first time into a week-long event. The goal of the festival is, through its numerous entertainment and game events, to encourage the artistic and creative development of children and youth. From the outset, the idea of the Festival was for children not to sing children's songs, but rather highly produced songs, just like adults. The initiator of the Children's Week is the radio station Gradski Radio Osijek, while support to the project were provided by the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipović, the Mayor of the City of Osijek, Krešimir Bubalo, the Prefect of the County of Osijek-Baranja, Vladimir Šišljagić, the Minister of the Family, Veterans' Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity, Tomislav Ivić, and the "Croatia for Children" foundation. From the beginning, the project was supported by PLIVA, as the main sponsor, as well as sponsors Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank, Profil, Konikom, Vodovod-Osijek, Podravka, H1 Telekom, Kraš, Croatian Post, Davor Šuker Soccer Academy, Millenium promocija and Novelti Millenium.
